Two lesser-known museums: the Opera del Duomo Museum and the Innocenti Museum.

Two of my personal favorites.
The Opera del Duomo Museum houses all the original statues and reliefs of the cathedral, bell-tower and Baptistery. We will also see a Pietà that Michelangelo originally sculpted for his own tomb and the original bronze doors of our Baptistery, including the famous “Gates of Paradise”.

The Innocenti instead was founded as a hospital for foundlings and it first opened its doors in 1445. The architecture was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, famous for building the dome of the cathedral. Inside the museum we will learn about the history of this remarkable institution and see some works of art.
